This course is an introduction to drawing. No prior experience is expected but you need to be motivated and genuinely interested in drawing. Drawing is a primary practice. It is at the core of all art practices. The aim of this course is to teach you not just to draw but to look, to see, and to think through drawing. Using varied mark-making materials applied to flat surfaces, students will gain skills and confidence in the fundamental concepts and techniques of drawing. Skill acquisition is focused on observing and drawing from the natural world, manufactured objects, the human figure and other subjects. Tools include graphite pencils, charcoal, pastels, inks. The first part of the course will be instructional and will focus on the basics of drawing, such as line, shade, perspective and composition. The second part is aimed at developing students creative thinking through lectures and creative tasks.
