This Foundation English A course is a non-credit course designed for students whose native language is other than English and whose knowledge and use of English do not meet the standards for entry into regular first-year English courses. The course focuses on developing reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and study skills. It's goals are to encourage students’ independent and collaborative learning and critical thinking abilities. A distinctive feature of teaching and learning in the Foundation course is the integration of language and subject teaching to consolidate and develop the language skills and academic knowledge needed to successfully complete an undergraduate degree program at KIMEP University. The Foundation English A course is the third and final step in the set of levels to be taken by freshmen before graduating to Academic English courses. By the end of the course, students who have made adequate progress in English demonstrate competence at CEF B2 mid level. The course covers minimum of 225 contact hours and 150 hours for independent learning.
